2014 Junior Breeding Heifer Show Breed Changes/Updates:

Please note the addition of ARB (American Registered Breeds) and an ORB (Other Registered Breeds) as breeds in the 2014 Junior Breeding Heifer Show. Further explanation of these breeds is below.

ARB (American Registered Breeds)

1. Open to heifers of Bos indicus type that have been registered or issued a certificate of recordation with a recognized breed association. The breeds recognized are Braford, Brahmousin, Brangus UltraBlack, Brangus UltraRed, Golden Certified F1, Percentage Simbrah, and Star 5. These breeds are defined below:

Braford (Purebred, Heifers must be classified as Braford to be eligible to show. No F-1, multiple generation half blood, ¾ Hereford, ¾ Brahman, Single Bar or other percentage cattle will be accepted)

Brahmousin (Purebred)

Brangus UltraBlack

Brangus UltraRed

Golden Certified F1 (Must be issued a certificate of recordation form from ABBA which includes owner’s name, ownership date)

Percentage Simbrah (To be eligible for competition cattle must meet the following percentages: ¾ Simmental ¼ Brahman; ¼ Simmental ¾ Brahman; ½ Simmental ½ Brahman; 3/8 Simmental 5/8 Brahman; No Third Breed Influence will be allowed.)

Star 5 (Must be 50%-75% Santa Gertrudis blood)

ORB (Other Registered Breeds)

1. Open to heifers of Bos taurus type that have been registered or issued a certificate of recordation with a recognized breed association. The breeds recognized are Braunvieh, Gelbvieh, Gelbvieh Balancer, Lim-Flex, MaineTainer, Percentage Charolais, Percentage Simmental, and Shorthorn Plus. These breeds are defined below:

Braunvieh (Purebred, 7/8 or greater Braunvieh blood)

Gelbvieh (Purebred, 75% or greater Gelbvieh blood)

Gelbvieh Balancer (Must meet the American Gelbvieh Association rules for registration as a Balancer hybrid, 25 to 75 percent Gelbvieh with the balance Angus or Red Angus)

Lim-Flex (Must be purple papered with less than 50% Limousin blood. Heifers with 50% or greater Limousin blood will show in the Limousin breed division)

MaineTainer (Must be 25% to 62.5% Maine-Anjou)

Percentage Charolais (At least 50% and no more than 15/16 Charolais parentage, sire or dam must be a registered purebred Charolais. Heifers must have a RF or FP certificate of recordation with AICA)

Percentage Simmental (Heifers must be 1/2-blood registered Simmental but less than purebred)

Shorthorn Plus (Must be registered as ShorthornPlus (Appendix ), and 50% Shorthorn blood concentration or higher to be eligible)
